(ASHEVILLE) -- Eight members of the Occupy Asheville demonstration were arrested Tuesday night. Asheville police Sgt. Scott Pruett said the arrests came after about 16 people were asked to leave Pack Square Park when a curfew passed.

"After letting them stand by there for, I'd say probably 30 minutes or so, we decided their intention was not to leave, so we approached them and asked them on several occasions to again vacate the park being as it closed at 10 p.m.," said Pruett.

Some of the group complied, but officers arrested those who refused and charged them with second degree trespassing. Pruett said the arrests were made without incident and the entire episode was peaceful.
