(ASHEVILLE) -- After nearly a week in the hospital, doctors discharged Rev. Billy Graham Tuesday afternoon.  Graham had been being treated for pneumonia for nearly a week.

"Upon discharge, Mr. Graham said that he was grateful for the many thoughts and prayers expressed by individuals across the country and around the world during his stay," said Graham spokesman Larry Ross.

Doctors at Mission Hospital in Asheville said Graham responded well to antibiotics and physical therapy.  Graham will continue physical therapy at his home in Montreat, North Carolina as he works to regain his strength.

"He said he is especially looking forward to seeing his home decorated for Christmas and spending the holidays with members of his family," added Ross.
