FEC members may be allowed to testify in John Edwards trial
Saturday, 17 December 2011 14:27

(GREENSBORO) -- U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles in Greensboro said Friday she will decide later whether two former Federal Election Commission members can testify on behalf of John Edwards when he goes on trial next year. WTVD legal analyst Hampton Dellinger says this could help to simplify the case for the potential jurors.

"This case, the more complicated it is, the more likely that Judge Eagles will let these experts actually testify in front of the jury. But the more complicated it is legally, the more jurors may focus on the facts. And there are some bad facts in this case," he said.

Those commissioners are expected to say Edwards did not violate the law when he failed to report nearly $1 million in payments from two wealthy friends to hide and care for his pregnant mistress.
