(RALEIGH) -- An estimated 182,000 toy-related injuries occur each year in the United States to children five years old or younger. The state Department of Insurance is urging parents and caregivers to keep children safe from dangerous toys this holiday season.
Spokesperson Jan Parker says parents should read warning labels before buying toys for children.
"We are recommending that parents take time to think about the selection and then that they properly supervise the child and they get age-appropriate toys," she said.
Parker also says kids should never ride their toys near stairs, traffic and swimming pools.
