(RALEIGH) -- Roadways throughout North Carolina may experience above average congestion as motorists make their way to and from holiday destinations.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation says interstates and other major roadways may experience significant levels of congestion, especially in areas near Asheville, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Fayetteville, and Raleigh.
Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan their trips for very early or later in the day. The NCDOT reminds motorists that state law requires all passengers to buckle up, drive sober, obey posted speed limit signs and not to text or drive distracted on North Carolina roadways.
