(RALEIGH) -- State Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said he is still looking into the action of the state's top poultry veterinarian, who tipped off officials about a raid surrounding alleged animal abuse at a Hoke County Butterball turkey farm. Troxler said Dr. Sarah Mason realizes the decision was not a good one.
"Dr. Mason has not been charged with anything nor convicted of anything. I think she indicates that she errored in judgement and she is remorseful for it," said Troxler.
The Butterball processing plant in Shannon was raided Dec. 28 after an undercover investigator for an animal rights group videotaped workers abusing turkeys and leaving injured birds untended. Progress NC has filed public records requests into the Agriculture Department's handling of the situation.
