(ASHEVILLE) -- The Asheville Fire Department is cleared by the state Department of Labor. The agency says AFD did not violate Occupational Health and Safety rules with its response to a fire last summer, in which Captain Jeff Bowen was killed.
Fire Chief Scott Burnette says that's not something to hang their hat on. He says it is unacceptable to have an incident in which a fireman is killed and nine are injured. He says that is why the department put together a Post Incident Analysis Team to look at 17 areas of operation.
Burnette says more than 60 firefighters volunteered to help with the review. He says they will look at ways to avoid future injuries, like keeping up with the latest technology in firefighting.
