(RALEIGH) -- State legislators took a closer look at "community care networks" as a means of cutting health care costs while still providing quality care. Dr. Allen Dobson, President of Community Care of North Carolina told a health and human services committee that the key is keeping care close to home.
"We put care managers and additional resources into the communities and we're serving 1.2 million of your 1.5 million Medicaid recipients as we try to get more and more people under active management," said Dobson.
It's estimates that CCNC networks saved more than $382 million in their managed care efforts in 2010. There are 14 CCNC networks made up of primary care physicians providing care for the Medicaid, Medicare, and uninsured populations of North Carolina.
