(RALEIGH) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol is out in force this week in an effort to educate teenage drivers on the dangers of driving irresponsibly. Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jorge Brewer said troopers will be conducting enforcement efforts around high schools from 6am to 5pm each day this week, but there is also and educational component to Operation Drive To Live.
"We have our traffic safety information troopers conducting traffic safety programs in the high schools as well as driving demonstrations and mockup crashes, which is always proven to be very effective as an attention getter," said Brewer.
He added that this week's initiative is not just about troopers stepping up their efforts. "I would like for the parents to take some ownership and help us out on this, and what I mean by that, keep a watchful eye on your kids and if you receive a complaint from anybody about your kid's driving look into it."
Brewer says with prom season approaching and graduations in the coming weeks, troopers want to make driving safety a top of mind issue for teen driver.
