(GREENSBORO) -- Former North Carolina Senator and presidential candidate John Edwards arrived at the Federal Courthouse in Greensboro with his daughter Cate on Monday morning.  Awaiting inside were opening arguments in his criminal trial on six counts of violating campaign finance laws.

At issue is whether Edwards used roughly a million dollars worth of campaign cash to hide his pregnant mistress during the 2008 campaign. Edwards' defense has said that the money was simply a gift and was not used for anything related to the campaign.

Jury selection was expected to be completed on Monday morning with the opening arguments beginning in the afternoon.
