(RALEIGH) -- President Obama was in Chapel Hill Tuesday to push congress to take action that would prevent some student loan rates from going up drastically in July. Sen. Kay Hagan said legislation that would prevent student loans rates from doubling is one of several bills currently bottled up in Congress.
The Violence Against Women Act is one measure she's hoping will get attention soon. "This is a bill that first passed back in the mid-90's. The last time it was renewed was in 2007 on a voice vote. And President Bush signed it into law," said Hagan.
Hagan said she also wants action taken on renewing the Export-Import bank, an issue she says matters to small businesses in North Carolina.
