(CHARLOTTE) -- AAA Carolinas motor club blames the state school system for not doing enough to prepare student drivers when it comes to driving safety. Tom Crosby, president of the AAA Carolinas Foundation for Traffic Safety, said the current rate of teen traffic deaths is unacceptable.

"We're killing kids at an average, in accidents, much above what our population should be doing and the reason is that driver's ed is taught by various people, many of whom are not certified," said Crosby.

A recent report ranked North Carolina second in the country for the number of 16 and 17-year-olds who died in traffic accidents during the first six months of 2011. There were 17 deaths; only Texas had more with 26 fatalities.
