(RALEIGH) -- The debate continues over next months constitutional amendment that would declare that marriage is between one man and one woman. Rep. Josh Stein said a number of legal scholars are concerned about the unintended consequences of the amendment.
"Family law professors from every single law school in the state of North Carolina signed a joint statement reiterating that there are certain and probable and possible consequences to the passage of Amendment One," said Stein.
Opponents of the amendment argue that gay marriage is already illegal by state statue, but supporters say that law could be overturned in court and that is why it needs to be written into the constitution.
