(CHARLOTTE) -- more people are expected to hit the road across North Carolina this Memorial Day weekend. Tom Crosby of AAA Carolinas said drivers may need to pack their patience.
"Slightly over 2 percent increase over last year. Eighty-eight percent of the million people in North Carolina that are going to be taking vacations 50 miles away from home are going to be driving, so it's going to be a little congested on the highways this holiday," said Crosby.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is trying to make it a little more bearable by suspending most road construction work.
