(RALEIGH) -- The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is trying to reinforce the message that texting while driving is dangerous and illegal. Patrol spokesman Sgt.Jeff Gordon said they are rolling out a public service campaign during the month of June.
"We're just trying to educate the motoring public on the dangers of texting while driving. Now, a lot of people think enforcement is the only solution, but we also think education is another very important piece of this puzzle that we need to kind of get out," said Gordon.
He added that this message is especially important for younger drivers who are often more connected to their phones and have less experience. Gordon sited studies that show that drivers under 20 years of age usually have the highest instances for fatal distracted driving collisions.
