(NEW BERN) -- The wildfire in the Croatan National Forest in Craven County is now 80 percent contained. Don Simon of the US Forest Service said very few firefighters are on foot and most of the firefighting involves heavy equipment and aircraft.
"We're using engines. We're using back firing and we're using aircraft," said Simon. It's still hot. It's still humid. The crews our here are still working in those conditions but, it's not quite like you might think with a hand crew trying to cut through the woods."
Firefighters are taking advantage of canals in the area to bring water to those areas. More than 21,300 acres have burned of far.
