(RALEIGH) -- North Carolina News Network meteorologist Aimee Wilmouth said while the mountains will see highs in the low 90's starting Friday, there is the potential for record three digit high temperatures in parts of the state.
"Very hot temperatures combined with high humidity Friday through the weekend and maybe even the beginning of next week and that's going to mean dangerous heat index values for some of us, 105 to maybe even up to 115 in some spots," said Wilmouth.
Even in the mountains the heat index is expected to be in the upper 90's. "For the mountains this weekend high temperatures are going to be in the lower 90's. For the foothills and western piedmont this weekend high temperatures 101 to 103 with heat index values around 105 if not a little bit higher than that."
