(RALEIGH) -- Gov. Beverly Perdue is again asking Republican legislative leaders to try harder to find more money for public education in the budget they have sent to her for the fiscal year beginning July 1. She said the bill falls short.

"I'm calling on them to do more for the children of North Carolina.  They're over there.  They are going to be there for a few more days.  They need to keep working," said Perdue.

Perdue did not indicate at a press conference on Tuesday whether she would veto the $20.2 billion spending plan for next year if GOP leaders did not find extra funds for the schools. Perdue has until Sunday night to sign the bill into law, veto it or let it become law without her signature.
