(RALEIGH) -- From the mountains to the sea, North Carolina's heat wave continues to set records.  Mike Stickler, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, says several records were broken over the weekend at locations like the Raleigh Durham International Airport.

"105 degrees was recorded at Raleigh Durham International Airport on Friday and that broke the previous record high, set in 1954. We touched 105 again on Saturday, breaking the 1959 record of 102. then on Sunday we hit 103, breaking the record of 99, set in 1953."

Temperatures are predicted to hit the century mark for the fourth straight day, Monday, with most of the state continuing under an excessive heat advisory until 9:00 p.m.

Thousands are still without power after violent storms on Sunday swept through the state. Strickler says North Carolina faces the chance for another round of heat fueled storms.

"More scattered storms out there this afternoon will be fueled by extreme heat and moisture ... these are some of the stronger storms we've seen in central and eastern North Carolina in some time. We had a measured guts of 84 MPH at Cherry Point, near the coast, Sunday afternoon."

Three people were killed in eastern North Carolina because of the weekend storms. Pitt County officials say 77-year-old William Henry Adams of Grimesland was killed Sunday afternoon when an outbuilding collapsed while he was inside; strong winds blew down his barn.

In Beaufort County, a couple was killed when a golf cart they were riding was crushed by a falling tree. There names have not been released.
