(RLAEIGH) -- The body of a man, and a car, were pulled Wednesday morning from Jordan Lake, according to State Highway Patrol Spokesman, Sgt. Jeff Gordon.
"At approximately 12:48 AM [Wednesday] morning, the Highway Patrol received a call of a one car collision, in which a vehicle traveled in to Jordan Lake in Chatham County."
Investigators say a 2012 Ford Mustang was traveling on Martha's Chapel Road and failed to turn when he approached the T-shaped intersection with Farrington Point Road. The vehicle hit a guardrail and was sent airborne into the lake.
First responders arrived on the scene shortly after receiving the call, but Gordon says they did not immediately engage in recovery.
"The vehicle did travel in to the lake where it was submerged. Due to the time frame and the safety of the first responders, they decided to wait until the sun came up to locate the vehicle."
The North Carolina Highway Patrol has identified the victim as 21-year-old Anthony Thomas Fico of Milley Brook Court in Cary.
Its reported that Fico is a soldier. Further details about the incident have not been released as the investigation continues.
