(RALEIGH) -- The North Carolina Utilities Commission has ordered two more days of hearings on the sudden resignation of former Progress Energy CEO Bill Johnson following the merger with Duke Energy. Johnson has been ordered to testify on Thursday.
While the State Utilities Commission continues scrutinizing how the Duke/Progress merger played out, now North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper is demanding documents related to Johnson's surprising departure right after the merger with Duke was approved.
Cooper said the concern is about reasonable rates and quality service for consumers. "We're asking questions about how the actions surrounding this merger may affect that in a negative way," said Cooper.
He added that his office has appealed Duke's latest rate increase to the North Carolina Supreme Court.
