(RALEIGH) -- North Carolina is being recognized for its efforts to protect and promote veterans' voting rights. The Tar Heel State is among 15 states named as All-Star states, according to Eric Evelsole with the nonpartisan Military Voter Protection Project.
"North Carolina, over the last couple of years, has been one of the most aggressive states, from a legislative perspective, in creating as many opportunities for service members to register to participate in the elections," said Evelsole.
Factors analyzed by the project included legislative efforts to eliminate barriers to military voter participation and to work with military installations and National Guard units to assist military members on-base.
