(GREENSBORO) -- The IRS is trying to work with those who are behind on their tax payments. Mark Hanson with the IRS office in Greensboro said it's known as the "Fresh Start" initiative.

"When you owe the IRS money it's probably going to be in your best interest to work toward a resolution sooner rather than later because you might be able to lessen any penalties and interest that you may owe and, again, the IRS understands that many taxpayers are facing difficult economic circumstances right now," said Hanson.

He said the new  rules enable some financially distressed taxpayers to clear up their tax problems even quicker. For more information, you can go to IRS.gov.
