(CHARLOTTE) -- With the Democratic National Convention kicking off in Charlotte soon, the ACLU is training activists to know the rules and their rights. ACLU lawyers are worried about maintaining free speech rights and protecting protesters from unreasonable searches.
Legal Director Chris Brook said they also want to educate members about the extraordinary events ordinance approved by the City that gives law enforcement additional powers during the convention. "We also think it is important for them to hear from folks in Charlotte about the preparations that the city has taken in advance of the DNC and what the rules of the road are going to be," said Brook.
He added that ACLU experts will be available throughout the convention to help with complaints from people who believe their rights have been violated.
