(RALEIGH) -- A watchdog group says hundreds of Wake County residents who got out of jury duty by telling county officials they were not citizens should be removed from the voting rolls. The Board of Elections disagreed, saying there was not enough evidence to justify removing them.
Jay DeLancy of the Voter Integrity Project said his group discovered widespread fraud, but one particular case was the last straw. "He had registered to vote and voted and then later convinced the Clerk of Court he was not a citizen and he also had a driver's license that indicated he was not a citizen and yet they by a 2-0 vote to let him stay on the voter roll," said DeLancy.
The Voter Integrity Project discovered more than 500 people they say were not supposed to be registered. DeLancy said his group will continue to work with election boards across the state to have the names of hundreds of dead voters removed from the rolls.
