(RALEIGH) -- A new poll shows that 55 percent of North Carolinians think the state's schools are on the wrong track and only one-third said they would choose a public school for their children. Representative Marcus Brandon of Guilford County said we need a new approach to public education.
"I think what we have to do is just kind of look at the way that we look at public education differently than we've been looking at it and try to look at ways that we can accomplish meeting all the different needs of all the different students across the state of North Carolina," said Brandon.
The poll was conducted by the conservative Civitas Institute. Pollsters say the results show a disconnect between where North Carolina children go to school, and where their parents would like to send them. Brandon said the legislature may take up issues including merit pay and school vouchers in the next session.
