RALEIGH - Voting reforms proposed by Republicans in the General Assembly are drawing fire from civil rights organizations. New legislation would end Sunday voting, eliminate same-day registration, and restrict early voting.
Pastor Nancy Petty from Pullen Memorial Baptist Church calls it an attack on an important constitutional right.
"There are fewer greater privileges in our country than the right to vote," she said. "We are here today to make sure that right is protected for all people, especially North Carolinians."
Activists say North Carolina's voting system is ranked 11th in the country and reforms aren't necessary.
