RALEIGH - A deal signed in December to lease the Dorthea Dix property to the city of Raleigh is still on a track to be undone by the General Assembly.
The tearing up of the lease has passed the Senate and is being considered by a house committee. Ellis Hankins with the North Carolina League of Municipalities says this is an issue of reliability with deals made with the state.
"And that folks ought to be able to rely on the sanctity of the contracts that are made. And I think there is some concern in some quarters of the possibility of that contract being destroyed."
Some lawmakers argue the state didn't get the best deal it could for the property.
