RALEIGH - Only hours after the General Assembly went home for the year, Governor Pat McCrory signed the state's $20.6 billion spending plan.
His end of session press conference was slightly overshadowed by the late breaking development that Public Safety Secretary Kiernan Shanahan is resigning at the end of this month. McCrory said that Shanahan decided he had to spend more time with is family and taking care of business affairs.
"The real estate, the business...he knew his time had to be concentrated on that in addition to wife just being named Rear Admiral, and that his focus was not going to be able to stay on this job the way it needed to be."
Shanahan took the job when McCrory took office in January. He took a leave of office from his law practice in May, after being questioned about a potential conflict of interest.
