Former Durham Police Officer Charged With Murdering Wife

DURHAM -- A former cop has been charged with murdering his wife. Durham Police found Maxine Burns in her home on Cedarwood Drive Friday evening, she had been stabbed to death. Police have charged her husband Timothy Burns with murder, Burns was a Durham Police Officer who retired in the 90's. WTVD-TV's Elaina Athans says neighbors perceived the couple as, very normal.

Athans said, "The couple has two adult children. One that is in the first year of college. The couple's next door neighbor told me last night, she never really saw any problems between the two and they got along pretty good."

Burns was taken to the hospital Friday night and remains hospitalized as of Sunday evening.
