WINSTON-SALEM -- A hostage situation has come to a peaceful end after more than a day of negotiating. Winston-Salem Police Chief Barry Rountree held a press conference today and said they received help from many departments in the region to get to this resolution.
Police Chief Rountree said, "It took us about 28 hours to bring this to a peaceful conclusion. Again, it was a lot of talking and negotiating. Because of the man hours that it took, we did lean on our fellow law enforcement partners - that's why you saw some of the High Point and Greensboro Officers over here."
Police identified the suspect as 31-year-old Christopher Jenkins and he was holding his 16-year-old brother hostage in the Traveler's Inn near Highway 52. Jenkins' was wanted on outstanding warrants included felony fleeing to elude arrest, assault on a female, communicating threats and multiple felony assault charges out of Virginia.
