RALEIGH -- The deadline to file your taxes for this year is approaching fast. April 15th doubles as the final day to recover part of the 760 million dollars that may be owed to you, if you did not file a return in 2010.
IRS Spokesperson Mark Hansen says tax payers generally have 3 years past the original filing deadline claiming a refund, and then the money goes for the greater good if it remains in the pool.
"Any money that is not claimed in the form of these tax refunds basically just goes back to the US Treasury. As far as spending that, that is of course for Congress and the President to decide how that money is allocated."
