RALEIGH -- The Annie E. Casey Foundation is out with its Kids Count policy report, and the result are not encouraging. The new scorecard of North Carolina children's progress shows some troubling obstacles to reaching key milestones.

Rob Thompson, Director of Communications and Network for NC Child, says, "The report shows that opportunity is not equal across the board when it comes to children in our country. Children of color specifically have substantial barriers to the same opportunities that other children have."

Thompson says by 2018, the majority of kids in the United States will be children of color.

The report looked at 12 different indicators that ranged from healthy birth rates to high school graduation rates.
