RALEIGH -- Governor Pat McCrory today signed North Carolina's new fracking legislation into law Wednesday. McCrory says legislation will spur economic development at all levels of our economy, not just the energy sector. Nick Wood is Organizing Director for the environmental advocacy group NC Warn, and he says this is part of a bigger problem.

Wood said, "It's about the energy business problem. Because Duke Energy, which is creating coal ash, is also trying to increase the amount of natural gas. Which on both the climate level and the pollution level, is just as harmful. At the same time it's blocking solar energy."

McCrory's administration says the industry will likely bring as many as 500 new jobs to the state over the next seven years and generate $80 million in new income.
