RALEIGH -- During a meeting that was intended to reach a compromise between House and Senate versions of the budget, the House presentation was going to include speakers, to which Senate members objected. Leading to a tense conversation between Republican Senator Harry Brown and GOP House Member Nelson Dollar.
Senator Brown said, "You're aware that if you're not a conferee, you're not even allowed - as a member of the House or Senate - to make comments in this meeting."
Representative Dollar responded, "With the House chairing, we want to make our presentation. And the best that way we know to make our presentation is not with the audio/visual, but with individuals so we're going to proceed with our presentations at this time."
Senator Brown finally, "Well then, Mr. Chairman, I think this meeting's adjourned."
The Republican Senators walked out of the meeting and the House continued with their presentation. During the second half of the session, which was controlled by the Senate, the senators returned.
