DURHAM -- Testimony continued Monday in the murder trial of Laurence Lovette Jr. with key pieces of evidence introduced in the case. Lovette - who is one of two men convicted of the killing of UNC student body president Eve Carson - is now on trial in the January 2008 murder of Duke graduate student Abhijit Mahato. Investigators have said Lovette robbed and fatally shot the student at his Durham apartment. Former Durham Investigator Art Holland testified he saw a vehicle, allegedly driven by Lovette, making a stop at an ATM.
Holland said, "I observed a light-colored car coming up to the ATM machine, can't say I ever saw any money being withdrawn, but come up to the ATM machine and then exit the lane."
Lovette does not face the death penalty if he is convicted in the Mahato murder as he was 17 at the time of the killing. He is already serving a life sentence for Carson's murder after his conviction in 2011.
