CHARLOTTE -- The summer is drawing to a close and numbers our from AAA Carolinas find many are making sure they get in a last minute trip. Just over 1 million North Carolinians will be hitting the road for the long weekend, and Tiffany Wright with the motor club says gas prices are on the downward slide.

Wright said, "It's been a 22-cents decrease since the 4th of July. And, you see those prices drop, that's making consumers a little more eager to spend. They're keeping more money in their wallets, which allows for them to spend more and want to take trips."

The statewide average for gas is $3.34 a gallon.
