RALEIGH -- After a two-year reprieve, drought conditions have returned to North Carolina. The State Climate Office at NC State University announced this week that 20 Counties from Charlotte to the Triad are classified under moderate drought.
State climatologist Rebecca Cumbie says 51 more central and western counties are considered abnormally dry.
"We're really continuing to monitor conditions. In those 51 counties we are actively keeping an eye on them to make sure we're not missing any indication that drought has actually reached those counties."
At this time, no water restrictions have been enacted or suggested, but Cumbie says it's important to know where your water comes from and pay attention to advisories issued by local water authorities and if you get water from a well, keep an eye on the level.
