RALEIGH -- Leaders from the state's cities and towns are keeping a close watch on what the General Assembly is doing and how it is impacting their ability to serve citizens with basic services.
Paul Meyer, executive director of the North Carolina League of Municipalities says they are still adjusting to moves made last year.
"Our primary push this year is to provide revenue options for cities. We are in the wake of some tax changes from last year that have hurt cities pretty significantly."
Among them, the elimination of the "privilege tax" cities imposed on business. Meyer says for now, the state has not provided an alternative for the lost revenue -- or a way to keep track of businesses in communities
