BOLIVIA – A Brunswick County woman who became an instant millionaire, after winning a $188 million lottery drawing earlier this year is now facing marijuana possession charges.
Multiple sources report that Marie Holmes has been cited by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office with a chance of simple possession of marijuana. She was charged at her home along with a man who recently bonded out of a jail on a $3 million bond.
According to authorities, a search warrant was executed at the home of Marie Holmes and Lamarr McDow in the Rutledge community.
Detectives also seized a firearm, and arrested McDow for possession of a firearm by a felon. He was taken to the Brunswick County Jail, and placed under a $6 million bond.
Holmes won a $188 million Powerball jackpot in February. She chose the lump sum payout of $127, which equaled $88 million after taxes.
