(DURHAM) -- The deadliest violence in France in decades has left scores of people dead at multiple locations in Paris in shootings and explosions. Speaking from the White House briefing room, President Obama vowed to do whatever it takes to help bring the perpetrators to justice. Duke University Professor David Schanzer, head of the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security at Duke and UNC Chapel Hill, spoke to NCNN about what happened.
Schanzer gave his opinion on what role the U.S. will play in investigating the Paris terror attacks. "We will certainly provide any aid and assistance. The French police and military are extremely competent, so I believe they'll get through this attack on their own, but I think it will be about a massive intelligence sharing operation to find out who was involved, and who else might be connected with them, and to help wrap them up," he said.
The terrorist organization ISIS has taken responsibility for the attacks in Paris that killed more than 120 people. French President Francois Hollande has called the attacks an act of war, and he has declared a state of emergency.
