(RALEIGH) -- Congressman David Price says he's glad to see a major overhaul of federal education legislation completed. Price says the bill now being called the "Every Student Succeeds Act" goes a long way to make improvements and correct flaws from what was known as "No Child Left Behind."
"It was a bipartisan process. There were changes made which will give the states more say, more oversight responsibility for monitoring student achievement and school achievement," Price said.
U.S. Representatives George Holding, Walter Jones, Mark Meadows and Mark Walker, all N.C. Republicans, opposed the legislation in a House vote last week. But the state's other Republicans, along with all three Democrats, support the bill. Both U.S. Senators - Richard Burr and Thom Tillis - also support the bill. Senator Burr negotiated for an additional $24 million per year for North Carolina schools in the legislation.
