RALEIGH -- Governor Pat McCrory declined to give any advance details about his "major education announcement" scheduled for Wednesday morning at North Carolina A&T State University - other than to say it will include more money for teachers and state employees. Governor McCrory was at a Council of State meeting Tuesday and told WTVD-TV he is anxious to make the announcement.
Governor McCrory said, "We're excited. And we said we were going to have a long-term plan, we're going to introduce a long-term plan."
Any pay increase would have to be approved by the Republican-led General Assembly. McCrory's announcement will be followed Wednesday afternoon by another announcement from Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest and Sen. Jerry Tillman - who said they will unveil a new fund to supplement teacher pay.
