(Raleigh) -- Following two days of interviews last week Thursday and Friday, it's anyone's guess when accreditation agency Advanc ED will issue a ruling of their findings. The Wake County School Board has been under fire over a complaint about the schools board's approach to diversity.
The state NAACP lodged the complaint against the Wake County School Board over its decision to adopt a new student assignment plan that doesn't take diversity into account. Following the interviews school board member John Tedesco didn't get a clear indication from anyone regarding when the agency would present their report. "We didn't get and answer on when the report might be pending," Tedesco said, "I wish we had a clearer answer on that. We're keeping our fingers crossed that [AdvanceED] is not going to be agenda-driven by a special interest group who filed the claim."
Ahead of the scheduled interviews last week, attorneys for the school board attorneys questioned the scope of the review and insisted that legal counsel be able to act in the interest of board members, partly because of a legal challenge that the NAACP also filed with the U.S. Office of Civil Rights. AdvancED denied the request.
