(ASHEVILLE) -- Before long, you'll start seeing motorcycles everywhere you go as people take to their two-wheelers to enjoy the warm weather. Motorcycle safety expert Anne Coombs says it is the motorcyclists' responsibility to be properly trained to not only ride a motorcycle, but to be able to handle the challenges on the road, particularly in the mountains.
She says she believes some basic motorcycle training should be mandatory before a rider is allowed to grab the handlebars and go out for a spin. Such training, however, is not required in North Carolina, but such courses are available at the state community colleges.
She adds that riders need to be sure that they don't stay in a driver's blind spot, especially with trucks. Coombs cautions drivers, though, to check your mirrors and don't make any sudden moves in case an inexperienced rider is caught in your blind spot.
