(RALEIGH) -- There is now a guidebook North Carolina citizens can access online that will help parents take the steps to establish their own home school. The Division of Non-Public Education has compiled the document.
Division Director Dr. Chena Flood said the document is aims to answer as many procedural questions as possible. "The actual law, what you have to do to actually list your home school with the State of North Carolina, what types of national standardized tests you can choose from, what the North Carolina public high schools require for graduation," said Flood.
As far as why parents start home schools, Dr. Flood said it is most often religious reasons or parents simply feel they can better educate their children one-on-one. The number of officially designated home schools in North Carolina is more than 46,000, according to Flood.
