(RALEIGH) -- As primary election day nears, one political observer said you should expect to see a lot of new faces at the General Assembly next year. Ran Coble with the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research said a significant numbers of lawmakers serving now will not be there in 2013.

"Already this year, before we've even had any elections and primaries or general elections, 49 of those in the current legislature have already decided not to come back.  Some of that is because of redistricting.  Some of that is because they're retired, they're tired of being in the legislature and some of that is because they are running for higher office," said Coble.

Coble said that over the current two year term, when combined to with the previous term, more than 90 out of 170 seats in the legislature will have changed hands.
