(RALEIGH) -- GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is continuing his tour of North Carolina this week even after Mitt Romney won all five state primaries on Tuesday. At a Republican breakfast near Charlotte Wednesday morning, Gingrich said it was clear Romney would be the nominee.
"I think obviously that I would be a better candidate but the objective fact is that the voters didn't think that and I also think that it's very, very important that we be unified," said Gingrich.
Exactly what this means for the future of Gingrich's campaign is not officially clear. As the former House Speaker continues making scheduled stops across North Carolina on Wednesday, Fox News' Carl Cameron sites aides who say Gingrich will suspend his campaign next Tuesday.
At the breakfast just outside Charlotte Wednesday, Gingrich essentially did everything but indicate when he will suspend his campaign. "We're going to do everything we can to make sure that he is in fact effective and that we as a team are effective both in winning this fall and, frankly in governing."
