(RALEIGH) -- The magazine of the Sierra Club is out with a list of colleges which promote environmental awareness. Appalachian State University and Duke University made the list.
"Duke was the highest scoring one in the state, ranked number 7 on the list, which is really high, really high when you are competing with all of these schools for doing such amazing things and Appalachian State was our number 10 school," said Lifestyle Editor Avital Andrews.
She said that Duke is trying to achieve climate neutrality. "They want their school to have zero impact. Any impact that they have they want to be able to offset."
She added that ASU has been environmentally aware for some time. "They have America's longest running program for the study of what they call appropriate technology. This program has existed since 1984."
Sierra Magazine is the official magazine of the Sierra Club. Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa also made the top 25.
