(CHAPEL HILL) -- A Chapel Hill church is wondering why the town approved their controversial transit bus advertisements, then yanked them after a handful of people complained. The ads show an Israeli and a Palestinian holding their grandchildren, and it encourages the U.S. to end military aid to Israel.

A few days after the ads were placed, the town told the church it was taking them down until they added a disclaimer. Pastor Mark Davidson of the Church of Reconciliation said they are taking the town's word that the ads did not meet town regulations.

"We're willing to take it a face value that all of these ads meet the policy and its regulations," said Davidson.  "We've done that and we'll see.  I think it is possible that there are other shenanigans going on behind the scenes, but the proof will be in the pudding."

Davidson says they have added the required disclaimer, and town officials told them the ads should be back in circulation this week.
